Very Interesting piece! Any details on the specific mods done inside aside from the external treatments? I miss the old Ebay sellers who barely cared about posting good pictures of their items. nowadays they seem to be attracting to much attention and it's giving us a hard time

I spent quite a while on "google" without finding any real details. Here is a quote from the seller... " I really wish that i could tell you anything about the MOD. The fact that Steve McCormack did the MOD speaks for itself. He is one of the true geniuses of audio. His amps are some of the finest in the world at any price. I actually bought these Chartwells from a guy quite a while back and he passed away 9 years ago. Most MODS to the LS3/5A's obviously have to do with the crossover. All drivers are original, as is obvious in the photos. I can tell you this. I knew a guy back in the 80's and he had a pair of Rogers LS3/A's made by Rogers. In fact, hearing his setup is what really made me want these speakers in the first place. Anyway, we did an A/B comparison between his Rogers and my Chartwells. We both used his Saterburg stereo subwoofers for the test. There was no question in either of our minds that my speakers had a more open detailed sound with substantially better imaging and wider and deeper soundstage. I thought about opening up the speakers and trying to compare the crossovers to a stock crossover, but the front baffle is not only screwed on, but it appears that it was also siliconed. I didn't want to risk damaging the cabinet by trying to slice the silicone with a utility knife. It is not like there is this huge bead of caulk around the baffle. I saw just a hint of silicone and thought better of fooling with them. I hope this helps you. These really are amazing little speakers." I've gota hand it to this guy quite a salesman.

Interesting turn of events, the seller “removed” the speakers canceling the auction. I’m curious how much he was offered under the table to do so. If they were valuable why would he not let the auction dictate the market price for them? My bid was pending via Esnipe so I did not get message directly from EBay as you would do otherwise.

I knew it still had a few days to go that's why it got me wondering.
I still haven't made up my mind anyway if i was to bid on it. I prefer to have my stuff stock if possible but there are exceptions and the interest factor was high on that Ls. We'll never know, Maybe another one might come up for sale in 5 years.

My worry about it is it may just suit Mc amps but it's quite flattering that Mcormack kind of prefered the LS sound. I've seen it again posted. May still got a chance to win it Rodney

I'll pass on this one. lets just wish mossback a lot of luck. This re-listing may be of benefit since others may loose some enthusiasm.

Missed the ending again but for me the final price wasn't that bad.
