Thanks for posting the link Rodney. Dan this should interest you. Question is: Will you ever go P3?

I know the speakers (harbeth). Having read and heard models like the 7es and trhe P3.
Now that we've heard the "man" of the hour, what are you're comments about the interview and the things he said? When the BBC said you're the man we've been looking for precisely. Was it about the LS3/5A or something other than that?
Without being judgemental, I'm persuaded by his manner of talking that he's an engineer in the real sense of the word, mindful of specs and measurement. I also think he's more into spec and measurement as any engineer would, and goes for QC in a stricter sense than the failing management of Rogers would. Interesting how much of these things can spell the kind of sound that harbeth speakers can make when you get to read reviews abouyt them from such guys as Bob Neill, Rich Harkness, and others like REG of TAS on "coloration" issues of cones, and the "dip" for example the 7es is made to do, and how that compares with an essentially ruler flat midband from the LS3/5A. I noticed that he said something like the Ls had a slight "coloration" in the midband which he all took away from the P3 while still keeping it faithful to the inherent beeb speaker philosophy. I reckon that the P3 has evolved somewhat in the last 20 years now that it's called the P3es. I heard the speakers. And AS is correct that it does not sound exactly as the LS3/5A from the same Harbeth man (DH) whom he calls "guru," but for his own good carefully avoids living under that shadow.
It's interesting how much can be correlated with what one hears of the harbeth sound from Allan Shaw in that interview.

I have become very attached to my Harbeth LS3/5A speakers. I see no reason to replace those speakers with another monitor type.

Glad to hear that Dan!
It's a lamentable fact that many audiophiles go on a merry-go-round in upgrades that's not all merry! I think somehow that for speakers, the LS3/5A helps big in keeping our perspectives in audio right most of the time! That we can forgo another upgrade because nothing is ever so dramatically better than what we already have!

At one time i owned an original harbeth HLP3. That same time i also owned an Epos 11, Sonus Faber concertino 1, the original Proac response 1 and a Rogers studio 1a. I spent a lot of time comparing their strengths and weaknesses somehow i ended up selling the HLP3 first(didn't know much about audio then, neither do i now). What i can remember during that time was my disappointment with the harbeth's midbass driver bottoming out quite early before reaching my preferred listening levels. Now thinking back, i just didn't know how to match my electronics then. After hearing it in the system of a friend who bought it , would have been kicking myself in the butt all day long if i only could.

That's a painful thing. You'd always be thinking of the endless possibilities for that speaker. I had a spendor s3/5 that I sold so easily but l can buy them still after all these years. But not so with the ageing LS3/5A, and the audio vultures lying in wait.
