Oscar called me up yestrday to tell me that he got bowled over by the Tannoys he listened to at Richard's. He now imagines how this might fit his wish for a bigger more senz speakers in his living room.
Soundwise, the tannoys sounded like the LS too just as the Quad 57s when I first heard them at Moz reminded me of the LS sound almost instantly. Ergo, that must be how good sound sounds!
Oscar, the hunt is on for you!?

Just saw a pair Dan of Tannoy Reds on ebay. Told Oscar about it. Just don't know if it's the same model as Richard's. These are the concentric 15 inchers by the way. Please look at it Dan if you're still online. Thanks.

Grant the one on ebay looks very good, and at 1250 dollars seem reasonable. Just don't know if it's the same as Richard's but looks like it, 15 inchers concentric dual speakers in very nice enclosure. Problem is he will not ship, for pick up only. Reminds of the problem I had before with my Leica M3 I sent to New York. Sherry Krauter did ot want to go out of her way to ship it to London. What I did was talk to Johnny Air by email and they obliged for a fee.
Same can be done I guess. Or better yet, ask a friend if he has the time to see New York on Oscar's charge and then pick up those monsters for shipping.

Here's the post of Botching. I don't know if this is still available though. Gentlemen this is a Sealed Tannoy Caterbury - 15" Dual concentric (middle 1990's version). This is the older version, (walnut) and not the newer HE. This is one of the most sought after Tannoy. Please check the net for reviews, specs etc.
The pair is in Saudi Arabia and can be shipped to Phils at relatively low price - estimated at less than 10,000 pesos (sea freight, 30 days delivery).
Selling Price - US$7000 + freight
Here's a picture taken from the net. Send pm for more details.

There are a few also over at audiogon.
Oscar should consider them. The wood cabinets will blend nicely with his narra flooring and they can't easily be toppled over as what happened to his LS ;D

The reds from Saltlake City sold for over $4,000.00. It looked like they had some issues. Someone say oad trip to NYC? Lets see thats 6 thousand miles round trip and my pick-up truck gets about 13 miles to the gal plus handling fee's and expenses...

Guys,
When I heard the Tannoy at Richard's, I was warned that it was like poison ... he was right, it was like WOW, its still British sound and even similar to the LS but greater magnitude. The Black 12 performed very well with the Tannoy, the bass was deep and wonderful, mids LS like, and the highs extended as how the amp performed in the house. I forwarded you guys what Richard briefed me on the Tannoys. Yes, it should sing well in my living room and a lot better than the LS, BUT, I will never let go of the LS .... there still was the LS flavor that I still liked that the Tannoy did not have, I just couldn't put my finger what it was, but I was happy hearing both with the Black 12.
Richard has the rectangular/std shape Lancaster cabinet with Tannoy Gold driver. The one in ebay UT was a corner speaker, but should be good enough though I asked Richard about the difference in sound if he ever A/B the 2 shapes but have not gotten any response. The only modern or lately made Tannoy that would have similar and vintage sound is the Tannoy Westminster which Dan posted above, that would be great as it is newer and longer life than the Black, Red, Silver and Gold... EXPENSIVE though!!!

THe one I saw and easy to see if you'd care to check (but buy it now though so don't know if still there) could be a relatively modern one. For 1250 dollars that is cheap in comparison to the prices quoted. Makes me wonder but if you'd care to check.

Oscar, it could well be the LS's expansive rippling layers of sound that makes the small enclosure or size "laughable" in the words of G. Holt. Amazing for the size of the speakers, a real enviable act that bigger speakers just won't compare doing. I guess we're all stuck with these little bastards in that sense. Magic!?
