"One of the hottest talents in jazz" – Jazz Review "a remarkable vocal talent with an exquisite four octave range" – All Music Guide Veronica Martell began her singing career in church. Martell was also influenced by the music in her parents record collection - artists like Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James, Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, Sarah Vaughn and Nancy Wilson. In her album she is joined by band members Doug Petty (Piano/Hammond) David Jackson (Bass) Frank Derrick (Drums) Tony Viscardo (Guitar) Alex Harding (Baritone Sax) Bob Hanlon (Tenor Sax/Alto Sax) Donny McCaslin (Tenor Sax) Kenny Rampton (Trumpet) and Gary Valente (Trombone). Big City Swing is a collection of some of the greatest swing & blues hits of the '30s, '40s and '50s. It showcases Veronica's strong yet angelic vocals. Reviewer John Cudric describes her singing style like a blend of Pat Benatar and Janis Joplin, with a hint of "Ella" here & there. She sings like a bird and looks like a dream according to another reviewer. This is a throughly fun and energetic album with lots of big band brass, great vocals and jazzy beats and superb instrumental solos. The mellower tracks really put you in the mood as they showcase Veronica's emotive vocals accompanied by Doug Petty's piano playing and Frank Derrick's drums. This CD will get your foot tapping! www.veronicamartell.com/

She reminds me of Barry Manilow doing big band era swing numbers in a rare CD album, a departure from Barry's pop repertoire like you're thrown on the dance floor in the 30s and 40s. I could see those GIs dancing on the floor as if it was their last dance!
Were you able to get this cd here?
