Bravissimo!!! - The Philippine Madrigal SingersCCP Main Theater - Dec. 18, 2007 PSHSAA & Batch 1982 sponsor ''''Bravissimo! – A Tribute to Excellence'''' a Philippine Madrgial Singers concert The Madz, as they are affectionately called by fans, recently won the European Grand Prix for Choral Singing in Arrezzo, Italy, last August. A two-time winner of this prestigious competition, they are the only choir in the world that has ever achieved this feat since the inception of the Grand Prix in 1989. The event shall be their only gala performance this December; thus we expect there to be tremendous response from the music-loving public to this concert. As the concert is a fundraising activity for the PSHS Alumni ‘Natatanging Guro Endowment Fund’ (NG Fund) , fellow Pisay Alumni can also contribute to the fund by joining ‘Sponsor-A-Teacher to the Madz concert’. If you cannot watch the concert but want to contribute to the fund, why not buy a concert ticket for a Pisay teacher? That way, a Pisay teacher watches the concert at the same time you contribute to the NG fund … a good deal? Net proceeds of the event will go to the PSHS Alumni ‘Natatanging Guro Endowment Fund’. The fund’s goal is to help maintain high standards of teaching excellence at our alma mater, the country’s premiere institution for secondary education. Income from the fund will help provide financial incentives and programs designed to recruit, retain, and help further improve the level of teaching excellence at PSHS. The last time I listened to them was here at the San Carlos U Talamban campus. They were a mixed bag of old and current members. One of the former madz baritone slept in my house and listened to the LS3/5A and my other tube amps and speakers with some of their recordings. His solo part also with the San Mig Choral on "kyrie," a Ryan C. work which I wasn't aware until he pointed it out to me. Excellent voice from Gary F.
If I were in Manila, I'd be one of those to darken the CCP. Been a Madz fan since the early 80s when Veneracion was the head. Moz if you're watching it tell us and stay at Balcony 2, mura na the best pa ang sound when you're nearest to the metal diffusers in the ceiling. Thanks for this post. I'm proud being a pinoy for all the talent this group shows the world.
Gary told me the first time thy bagged this coveted european choral fest. According to his story, many choral groups were really good at technique, but the Madz just sang their hearts out directly to the judges and pulled their heartstrings! That simple.
Dan (mossback) if you're tuned in, the CD Oscar gave you was a collection of "kundiman songs" by the Phil. Madrigal Singers that you liked very much the last time we listened in his home, remember?
