I'll look for the record of all broadcast companies worldwide using the LS3/5A. Nice memorabilia from its origin --the BBC. If any, it says more than enough how these speakers were really used in studios and lorries.
The fact that these speakers were designed to reproduce the human voice with such accuracy and truthfulness to help readily identify which part of Britain were the broadcasters coming from by their own peculiar accents was by itself quite atonishing. Also, the unusual rise in treble energy to detect tape hiss from an impending feed was a feature that made the LS a useful broadcast monitor.
The anecdote about the accidental hearing of music from an FM broadcast is quite a telling influence how this speaker found its way into the homes of some BBC employees which they bought early on as kits. I'm sure there's a lot more we may not know yet, so guys tell us what else you know to help this thread further in words and pictures.

That's a good one. Hope you can find that record of broadcast companies who used the LS3/5A. I wonder if any local studios or stations used them before?

We're pro american so expect JBLs and Altecs, and yes Dai-Chi and Yamahas since they make studio speakers.
It's remarkable that this BBC speaker is utililized even in Denmark, home of Dynaudio! But now the BBC also uses Dynaudio and was it Harbeth's Alan Shaw that berated the whole idea why change from a homegrown speaker to another.

Mark I believe has the newer Rogers including the Studio 3 which I don't see here. The Rogers Studio 3 was supposed to replace the LS3/5A. It has exactly the same dimensions less the kef drivers which kef ceased doing. Hence, Rogers Studio 3 is the closest look a like to the LS3/5a amongst the newer brethren like the spendor S3/5, and the Harbeth P3es. Oh the P3 I believe has the same dimensions as the LS3/5a as well. These two came out somewhere in 1993-94. And the spendor S3/5 much much later. Just a thought on how the LS3/5a continued in another version and are sometimes called "clones."

Spendor's history showing their LS3/5A production from 1982 - 1998. If I recall, my Spendors serial numbers put them in 1984.

I think it belongs here as these amps were supposedly tailor fitted to the LS3/5A and thus forms part of its history.
I've always wondered how this sounded with the LS3/5A tho. We didn't get a chance to listen to yours the last time. Perhaps you can share your insights on this combo,

There's a current thread on the LS Brit group involving some of the luminaries who designed, made the LS3/5A. Specifically Jim Rogers, the BBC's Raplh Mills, Harwood, Whatton, and Sced. There's bound to be some Interesting unheard of notes on the making and history of the LS3/5A. Maybe it would be worth putting them here later.

There's another interesting thread by Brian Pook (MD of Rogers) with another member concerning the history of Rogers and Kef (re the B110 manu problems), and the BBC that no one should miss, specially Rogers LS3/5a owners.
There's bound to be another book in the making and David f*gan is going to email Ken Kessler about writing it.
