I'm trying to understand what you mean by "recessed medium." Correct me please, do you mean the "midrange" of the LS sounds "recessed" compared to the bass hump and treble energy it gives? Hi, Yes, that is what I mean. It is confirmed by all the amplitud/frecuencies published curves. The 1 khz hump in the 15 ohms version is another story, I am not referring to this fact. I personnally prefer an almost flat response, and I confirm that I do not listen to the typical ls3/5a sound, although in my opinion I preserve its qualities To discuss more this fact would be too difficult for me since my english is not very fluent, but I would have tons to say. In the french forum I am still pretty much not understood. I got used to this! ;D Shushu

Can somone in the house show the response curve of the LS3/5A?
I almost would have said the it's the 1 kHz. output but you said it's not.
Between my spendor LS and the Rogers Studio 3, I get a flatter response from the Rogers too since it has shot the "bark" and "squak" that makes the LS sound the way it does. But ... but ... I also get less of the "romantic" deliberate (slower if you like) manner of speaking that the LS is noted for. The Rogers is faster drier in the mid/treb range and makes it sound somewhat (call it modern) different from its predecessor. The Harbeth P3es is the same thing. Even the original Spendor S3/5 that I had before for crying out loud. No wonder nothing that replaces it sounds like it!
Nothing is really good or bad here. It really depends on how one chooses to see it.
If you "donot listen to the typical ls3/5a sound," it sounds good to me to know that "...in my opinion I preserve its qualities."
I think it's still the LS by heart for you!

Shushu, Is this the same tweak you are referring to? Thanks! Not at all ! I have to place my materials in front of the speaker, of course. In fact, I almost scotch it behind the front Tygan grill. These are tweaks only for those who wish to linearize the response of a ls3/5a, it is not a main tweak or a global tweak. Ls3/5a can be linearized acoustically because the excess of energy is located in the high frequencies. It would not be so easy if it was in the central medium for example. I will not post pictures, it is very ugly. The nature and dimensions of the pieces depend also of the response of the amplifier, of the sources also.

The tissue paper trick/ mod is widely known and put to good use in recording studios all over the world. Where their "default" control-room console down-mixing monitors: The Yamaha NS10's have an awfull ear piercing treble as part of the parcel. This is in most circumstances tamed by...U guessed it: A leaf of toilet tissue paper. To be voiced by trial and error from various quality tissue papers.
