A group of audiophiles visited Malaysia in July this year. Jo Ki's place was one of the "audio dens" we visited.

Jo had two crystals, one oval and one block, on his "gold-badge" ROGERS LS3/5A.

To me, his metriculous placement of his ROGERS and the AB1 is more logical and self-explanatory than the "crystals".

Sure looks an audio studio! Probably it would be good if you can oblige us a little more. I'm curious about those columns, bass traps are they? Those low rise slotted thin membranes what are those? They look like cd racks? Roll down panels on each side. What do those crystals do? There seems to be more space in-between the LS and the stands? What material is in-between them? There are only three why not four?
As I see it (ohs get alerted on this) the AB-1s are slightly higher than the LS base to the stands. What's the column in the center? The LS seems close much to close to the side walls, but the walls directly on the side of the LS are loaded with "diffusers"? HOw far is the listening position to the LS?
Sorry to trouble you with these questions. Just can't help it.

If I recall, the one on the inner corner is a natural crystal but the one on the outer corner is plastic but spherical & segmented. The combination of the 2 led to more definition but also air in the sound.

Richard, I visited Jo March 2006 while you visited July this year. I noticed that the room treatments have since changed.

Grant,
At the time we visited Jo in July this year, his room was newly errected. Honestly, I believe the crystals have more psychological effect for the believers than actual. But Jo's meticulous way of placement of the AB1 relative to the ROGERS is clearly scientific and effective that makes the two working in cohort.
Cheers!

Spencer,
I think only the owner of the room can give the precise information. But to me, a believer of room acoustics good (speaker placement paramount!), those are remedies of room acoustic when the acoustic property is not ideal or awful. I guess Jo has spent a lot time to work out the best remedies for the particular audio room, if not for decorative.
I believe an average listening room doesn't need extensive acoustic treatment IF the placement of speakers is correctly in coupling with the room.

I agree with Richard on the proper speaker placement as a basic must. In the case of Jo, his room is quite small at 9' x 13' (if I'm not mistaken) so he has put a lot of effort to squeeze the best from it thru the room treatments and placement of the AB-1 and more particularly the Rel sub.
