I've had my QII's for a few years after having found a pair locally and restoring it. This is an amp that I really love for its romantic, smooth but textured sound. It mates well with my ESL57's and LS3/5A's. Art Dudley has a very nice writeup on the Quad II which he caps with the following statement: The point remains: I could live the rest of my life with these amps and these amps only, and never want for much. Full writeup can be found here: stereophile.com/artdudleylistening/407listen/index.html

These Quad IIs are mainstay amps. How about your preamp sir? Can you show that as well?

Right now I just hook it up to the Scott LC-21 or directly to the variable output of my Quad 99 CDP-2. I'm still scouring epay for the Q22 preamp. I lost a couple of times by just $5!!!@#%^!

I have a great deal of respect for Art Dudley. He has a way with words and reasonable ears IMO. Good hunting for the Q22!

Me too Dan on Art D.
I think the Quad IIs on the LS will give it a deeper soundstage, a deeper tone, a deeper bass with a luscious wet-lip midrange, and bequiling treble -- like it's "romantic" as said by Moz.
The Dynaco STs/Mark IV will give the LS more grip and power but will sound lighter, opener in the midrange because of less base and more mids and upper mids, with a treble that's pleasant on the ears. Dan, I'm curious if Jim Mcshane said anything already to you about the KT77s? I was hoping too that the EH el34s would be a good bet on the Mark IVs since I had a good experience with them on my TS 34.1 amp.
Jo KI also likes the base of the EH on his Blue Sky. He even said it beats the mullards in dynamics that any new comer into tubes would be impressed hearing them. You can read his notes in the malaysian LS. They're also awaiting the arrival of the new Rogers 60th Edition anniversary model LS3/5A and will compare it with the Strilings V2 since both don't use the original kef drivers anymore.

No news on the new KT77 but that is expected as Jim is very careful. I would think the JJ KT77 tubes are much better than EHEL34. One can hope the new Golden Lion KT77 will be even better. I am curious to hear what Jo Ki thinks of the new speaker too!

Expect a shoot-out between the Stirlings and the Rogers 60th from Jo Ki, et al. Five (5) pairs of the 60th Rogers are coming to their shores. It's going to be an interesting "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly" shoot-out I hope to see who's the "last man standing."
Meantime, HI Fi News May 08 is just around the bend. It would be nice if you can get a copy Dan. THe 60th will cost around 1500 hundred quids.
Who's making the Golden Lion 77?

How about FHM? That seems to look more interesting, ha ha!
Really the plot thickens some more on this 60th Rogers. I had to even give my Studio 3 a listen this morning with the Mark IVs and fisher 50Cs driving. I still like the Spendor LS3/5A. NOt that it's bad sounding. Far from it. It's a good sounding modern LS3/5a minus the hump and more of that eerie LS treble air and spaciousness. The Studio 3 Rogers sounds lighter in fact by comparison, but the midrange is characteristically Rogers -- clear and neutrally less bassy in tone. Something like the ST70 sound with a more forward mid to upper mids presentation in contrast to my Stromberg Carlson's weightier tonality giving its sound a deeper tone much like the LS sound too.
MOz I hope you'll be able to spirit away one copy and re-print the whole article here.

THere's this July issue of Audiophile saying that the Quad 1 betters the Leak 12.1 and is said to be the "best amp in the world" using 6L6/ KT66. Any more info about this amp from members here or anybody who has a pair?
